Water Colors From Nova Scotia

I like to do several water colors on a page at one time which is not always the case but it helps me compare the images side by side. I can do them quickly and can get more work done with small sketches than if I work on just one large image.
(The images below are larger than actual Size)

Nova Scotia , St Margarets Bay near Peggys Cove

This a small 5 x 7 inch oil painting is a close up view of a tree and rocks about 50 yards from where I was standing,. It is interesting that one of my friends and student called it wind swept as it certainly is . The trees and vegetation in the area are hardy from the moist air that waters them off the ocean but very dense and  compact because of the severe weather they encounter in winter . When you travel 4 or 5 five miles in any direction the trees  change standing tall and long like any woods you may find in Maine or up and down the east coast. It is a wonderful place to visit and paint which I plan to visit often.

Blue Bowl # 3

So here is the next in the series of blue bowls a simple still life with two tomato's from our last years summer garden .
The painting started out larger at the bottom as I had a drawer with a small round handle, I just could not resolve the composition problems it presented to the over all painting so I decided to crop it out of the bottom half of the painting.

Composition is something we all struggle with, tweaking here , extending there until it seems to work. No matter how we may follow the rules it all comes down to how we as individuals see it, a feeling more than anything else.

So onto the next in the series of the blue bowl, although I may break for a couple of landscapes I am dying to do for a little variety. Hope you enjoy and here's  to painting with you soon as I lift my glass and sit back for a  short repose.

"Garlic Blue Bowl # 3 " Oil on Panel, 24 inches x 30 inches

This is the next oil painting from my bowl series of  garlic  from a different angle offering a new rug. It's interesting to juxtapose  the same bowl of garlic  in comparison with my last blog,  offering me an opportunity to stand back and compare the two images.  Not sure what it will reveal but we shall see , so for now  it's on to the next  blue bowl  in the series of paintings that should be finished by next week, until then happy painting !

The Blue Bowl Series ,Oil on Panel , 24 inches x 30 inches

This is the newest oil painting from my blue bowl series of garlic and am in the process of finishing another with a third in the wings . I have always been drawn to this bowl and  the challenge of painting the same object  over and over again  never seems to  bore me. Perhaps it is the security in knowing an object so well like a good friend that no matter how often we see them there is always something new to learn, appreciate and enjoy.#art#oilpainting#fineart#demo#stilllife
